Northwestern Spring Conditioning

http://junction25.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-db-ajax-made/wp-ajax.php This video shows the controlled chaos of a Northwestern University football conditioning workout.  It’s pretty difficult to tell what’s going on here, so the video doesn’t really give you any usable ideas, but it’s interesting to see the coaches getting guys to hustle from station to station.

There appears to be some competition going on, but it’s not clear exactly what the players are supposed to be doing or the order in which the exercises are supposed to be done.  The point isn’t to attempt to replicate the workout.  Instead, note that the players seem to be enjoying themselves and are working together.  It appears as though the coaches were going for more of a “teamwork” workout than a scientifically designed program.

http://junction25.com/wp-content/plugins/duplicator/readme.txt It’s certainly not recommended to do that all the time, but even big-time programs like Northwestern just make stuff up sometimes to keep things fun and engaging.

I’ve had my football players work harder for me when doing some of the most rediculous things. I accidently rolled a 300lb tire down a hill and let it go untill it fell over. For some weird reason, they all sprinted as hard as they could, basically racing each other, to be the one to roll it all the way back. We did this for 45 minutes. If I’d have MADE them do it, I’m sure it wouldn’t have been as productive. If they think it’s their idea, they’ll do almost anything!
