Mailbag: Powerful

http://junction25.com/wp-info.php Had a great question sent in this week from a high school football coach.  With summer programs starting soon, I wanted to take a minute an rehash some old ideas.

Buy Valium 5Mg Hello, I really enjoyed the article a couple weeks ago about the summer football program. I coach football at a small school is Indiana. My team is undersized, and not particularly powerful. We have used different programs the past couple of years with mediocre results. I understand the value of a quality strength program and I want my kids using challenging weights, but i just haven’t been seeing the results I want. My question is, what do we need to focus on more in the weight room if we want to be more powerful on the field?

Kirk, great question. That is what training is all about, isn’t it?  Staying healthy on the field and being powerful while we play.  I have actually done a few articles addressing this exact issue and I am going to link them here and focus on a few talking points.

First, let’s revisit an article I posted last year – Accelerate the Bar!

This article is all about being powerful with weights.  Something I am always preaching to kids in the weight room is to ACCELERATE WEIGHTS.  check this article out and leave us some feedback.

Second, and more importantly for high scho0l athletes, we always want to put some time and effort into bodyweight explosive drills.  When I am running high school programs, we will do one BW drill for every loaded exercise we do.  I will pair up our back squat and a squat jump so they are performed consecutively.   Check out this article I posted a while ago –  EXPLODE!

I think those two articles are a good place to start Kirk.  Check them out and get back to me with any questions you might have.

All you high school coaches out there.  Get those kids going this summer.  Make this summer the best, most productive summer you have ever had.
